LESSONS FROM THE LIVES OF ELI AND SAMUEL PART 3 – Evangelist Ikponmwosa Oghogho

In the last module, we saw in scripture that God shut up Hannah’s womb and we tried to look at why God did it.

A dear Pastor friend of mine sent me some more insight on the subject after reading through mine.

After pondering on it, I decided to add it to the other aspects we are discussing in this module.

Hannah had seen the visible failure of the Priesthood in place due to the evil deeds of the Sons of Eli.

She also saw the failure of their father to bring them under check.

Apart from taking meats in a way that wasn’t right, they were having sexual relations with the women that assembled at the door of the congregation (1Sam 2:12-17; 2:22)

The people knew about this as it made many of them to hate giving their offering to the Lord (1Sam 2:17; 22-23).

Some of us who are Ministers today have taken the path of the sons of Eli.

Our ungodly dealings with the people of God creates a stumbling block on their way such that some may fall away or be weakened in their faith in Christ.

Let us beware because God’s judgment is coming and it will begin from the house of God (1Peter 4:17)

Those of us who are Ministry gifts to whom more has been committed will be judged by a higher standard (James 3:1, Heb. 13:17, Roman 2:1-5).

Hannah was there every year and she saw the desecration taking place!

What a shame!

Although she knew God doesn’t allow any other tribe to serve as Priest, Hannah was willing to give God her child to fill the vacuum for a godly representation in the Priesthood if God would accept.

God needed a faithful Priest (1Samuel 2:35-36) and Hannah needed a male child.

Hannah willingly offered God what she saw as a great need in the Priesthood despite knowing that, that privilege was exclusively for the Levites.

In response she found herself receiving the blessing she needed personally: a male child.

Many times all we need to get our needs met is to align with the needs of the kingdom and make their pursuits our goal.

Matthew 6:33 readily comes to mind on this.

Matthew 6:33

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

If we learn to make our desires rooted in pursuing kingdom expansion demands, we will see heaven’s resources released in overwhelming ways to enable us carry out those heart desires.

It is clear God decided to completely eliminate the family of Eli from the Priesthood and replace them with another faithful Priest and all those left in Eli’s house shall beg this new Priest to put them into one of the Priests’ offices (1Samuel 35-36).

God had shut up Hannah’s womb thereby creating a delay.

This delay period helped to create a desperation for a child in her heart.

Along the line, God helped her to see the need for another Priest ready to do God’s bidden and then guided her to willingly offer to give God her Son to be the one.

What a Master strategist our God is!

We shall throw more light on the issue of Samuel being drafted into the Priesthood meant only for Levites, in one of the future modules.

What we must not forget in today’s module is that our responses to those nudges in our hearts to meet a kingdom need might just be all that’s needed to align us with God’s purpose to unleash the supply of our needs.

Learning to respond early is vital!

I pray that God will help us to be sensitive to see and respond to kingdom demands in Jesus name amen.

To be continued….
