They burst into laughter. Later, he prayed for the family and took Peter back to the hotel. Pastor Matthew told him he would come on the following day and take him to his house finally. When Pastor Matthew was about to leave, Peter received a distress call from Josephine. Peter quickly told Pastor Matthew to wait and listen to their conversation.
“Are you there? Pascal, are you hearing me?
“I’m in trouble. There’s fire on the mountain. I have lost my precious mother and…and..erm…” Josephine said desperately.
“Is everything alright? What happened?” Peter asked.
There was a brief silence and she continued panicking, “I need your help. Pascal, I regret my actions. I have eaten more than enough and I can’t vomit anything again. I have crossed the boundary. I need your help. Where are you?”
Pastor beckoned to him not to disclose his location.
“What do you want me to do?”
“I’m in my house. I’m sorry for whatever I have done. I’m dying…Please, help me…” The line cut abruptly.
Peter turned to the Pastor who was still in doubt.
“I think she is in trouble. Do you know where she is calling from?” Pastor asked.
“Yes! She told me before I asked you to wait.”
“No problem. Please don’t pick her calls until tomorrow morning. I will get back to you.”
Immediately he left, Josephine called again but he ignored it. After repeated calls through the night, she finally sent a text message early in the morning. When Pastor Matthew came,.Peter showed him the text message. Without any doubt again, they went to her house. Upon their arrival, Josephine was surprised to see Peter with Pastor Matthew but allowed them to come inside. Her dishevelled hairs and appearance revealed someone who was bereaved and in agony. Before Peter could say anything, Josephine pointed at Pastor Matthew,
“So, this is the man who shielded you.”
“From what? He is a Pastor.” Peter said aasuringly.
Pastor Matthew faced her and answered her confidently,
“Jesus Christ, the Lord of lords shielded us and he’s always ready to shield whoever will come under his lordship.”
“No! This is not our agreement, Pascal. Why did you betray me? You promised to marry me when Anne is matured but what did you do ? You betrayed me.” Josephine said passionately.
“I changed my mind. I’m sorry. Josephine, you know I never wanted to join your business but you promised not to push me beyond my ability. What did you do? You eventually rode over me and took away my freedom.”
“Shut up! After everything my mother did for you but the only thing you paid her back was death. You killed my mother.” She shed few drops of tears.
Peter was confused and looked at Pastor Matthew who was praying silently as he listened to their conversation.
“How? Was she not the one who entertained us when we visited her two years ago?”
“Everything she did was because of you and your foolish action has destroyed her good plans for us.” Josephine said.
When Pastor Matthew perceived where the direction of their conversation was going, he stepped in.
“Why did you call him?” Pastor Matthew asked.
“You aren’t permitted to interfere in our discussion. When two elders are talking, learn to keep your mouth shut. Is that clear?”
Peter couldn’t take the insult but challenged her to respect the servant of God.
“Servant of God?” She started laughing and Peter looked at Pastor Matthew who wasn’t perturbed by her uncouth attitude
Josephine continued to disparage him, “Is Pastor Abel of Weeping may endure for a night ministry not a preacher? I know two women he regularly slept with in one of the hotels in this city. Do you want me to mention more? Prophet Jude came to receive power from the same man I took Pascal to and he never hid his identity. Many of you are fake and deceivers.”
“Keep quiet! I rebuke the foul spirit in you in Jesus name. There are still some genuine servants of God preaching and living godly in this crooked and perverse generation.” Pastor Matthew challenged her.
Josephine still wanted to throw more insults when the Holy Spirit took over Pastor Matthew,
“Josephine Alaba, your mother gave you a mandate to trap Peter in order to fulfil your inordinate ambitions. You have successfully built two houses in your town and wished to marry him in order to finally sacrifice him on the altar of “gbewiri abogunjaye”. Your visit two years ago was to initiate him into your family rites.”
Josephine became agitated and looked at Peter who was amazed at the deep revelation.
“Who told you all these? Do you belong to PPRS group?”
“Josephine, why have you sold yourself to be used by your mother against God’s plan for your life? Your mother used you and destroyed your life. She died without knowing Jesus Christ and your end will be the same hell fire if you fail to repent of your sins. Powers, Principalities, Rulers and Spiritual wickedness are after your soul. Heed the warning, Josephine!” Pastor Matthew warned her.
Josephine sat down and bowed her head. Peter stood beside the Pastor waiting for her next action. Suddenly, she lifted her head and her eyes were red with anger.
“Peter, your time is up! My mother died instead of you. I won’t leave you until I see you in the grave. I swear!”
“Peter has been redeemed by the precious blood of Jesus and his life is hid with Christ in God. You have no power over him. Anyone that touches him will face the wrath of God. I plead with you to give your life to Jesus Christ. He loves you.” Pastor Matthew pleaded again.
They waited for her to respond but she went inside and gave him the documents she had seized from him. Pastor Matthew begged her to give her life to Jesus Christ but she walked them out of her house. Pastor Matthew drove straight to the church. As Peter sat in the car waiting for the Pastor, Josephine called again. When he picked it, she began to cry,
“My only hope is gone and you have left me without looking back. Just to let you know that I love you. In the next world, I will still marry you. Bye…”
Suddenly, Peter heard a gunshot and fear gripped his heart as he looked around. When it dawned on him that Josephine had committed suicide, he hurriedly came out of the car and ran inside the church. Pastor Matthew was dumbfounded and lamented the loss of a soul into eternal damnation. He wept for her and was about to inform the police when Peter discouraged him. He suggested they should pass the area to find out the truth. Passing through the area, they saw Police with some neighbours in front of her house. Peter was in tears when she remembered their journeys and the same chance of hearing the gospel but she refused the free gift of God’s salvation.
Pastor Matthew explained, “Many people today live as if they will be here forever without preparing for eternity. Some even believe Jesus Christ is not the only way, the truth and the life. Hell fire is real. Heaven is real. Our choice today will determine where we will spend eternity. The Bible says in Hebrews 9 verse 27,
‘And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment’
God isn’t partial. Whatever a man sows, he shall reap. The day of judgement draws near. We can’t force anyone to accept Jesus Christ but we can persuade them by God’s grace. Some are like Josephine today, still toying with their eternal destinies. I remember one of my favourite songs, Careless soul, oh, heed the warning, for your life will soon be gone, Oh, how sad to face the judgment, Unprepared to meet your God. We must be prepared to meet our God…”
Peter didn’t know when they reached Lisa’s house. They were still sad as they entered the house. When Charlie saw his father, he brought out ..
