DON’T MIX IT – Pst. Timothy Bernedict

And the LORD said unto him, Go, return on thy way to the wilderness of Damascus: and when thou comest, anoint Hazael to be king over Syria: And Jehu the son of Nimshi shalt thou anoint to be king over Israel: and Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abelmeholah shalt thou anoint to be prophet in thy room. 1 Kings 19:15-16.

A young minister called me sometime ago to narrate his ordeal. He has been trying to connect to a certain senior minister to be fathered/mentored for over five years without success.
No replies to his messages. No response to his calls. No acknowledgment to all his seeds etc. He had issues requiring speedy prophetic intervention but none came. Every attempt to get close was rebuffed. It wasn’t as though he was a total stranger seeking validation to his ministry. The senior minister and his PA know him personally.

As he spoke, I could feel his pain and disappointment. He wondered what could have been wrong with him.
Did he go wrong in his choice of a spiritual father/mentor or did he do anything wrong without being aware?

He wanted to know what to do when you received a direction to be fathered or mentored but you get rejected.

I told him many things which may not be necessary on this space since experiences, situations and people differ.

But one thing remains constant.

I told him, it’s of no use getting frustrated and depressed over a door that is unwilling to open to you, go back to the one who directed you to reconfirm if you should keep waiting or move on.

When people want space, let them have it. There could be several reasons for their actions that may be unconnected to you.
I told him:
The FIVE PRINCIPAL WAYS through which any grace is transferred are:

  1. Through the spoken word.
  2. Through service.
  3. Through your seed.
  4. Through honour.
  5. Through laying on of the hand.

If you can’t get laying on of the hand which by experience I consider as the least means, explore the other ways.

I further said to him,
Go back to work and get busy.
Honour the grace.
Pray for the grace carrier and his ministry.
Celebrate him or her publicly and privately.
Sow into their lives and ministries.
Listen to their messages but go get busy with your work and keep praying for clarity of instructions and direction.

He went to pray, got redirected and boom, doors began to fling open left right and centre for his ministry.
Today, he is happy and excited.

One mistake most young ministers make is to assume that until a certain person lays hand, anoints them or step on their altar their ministries can never take shape. Many abandon themselves and their expected ministerial duties, their personal growth and development plan out of laziness or sheer ignorance in search of a quick fix from somewhere. They forgot that no one can stir or activate what is not already available.

God is a jealous God. Never place man in the space you should reserve for Him else He leaves you alone for the man to help you.

I believe so much in SPIRITUAL FATHERHOOD, I have been a beneficiary of the blessings of spiritual relationships but, any anointing that seems to humiliate you, deflate your esteem and belittle you before anointing you can never help you. Submission is potent with humility not humiliation.

God instructed Elijah to anoint Elisha, Hazael and Jehu, he only reluctantly anointed Elisha and forgot about the rest. He further refused to leave instructions to Elisha to anoint Hazael and Jehu before departing yet, God still used Elisha to anoint Hazael and used Elisha’s servant to anoint Jehu why? It was in God’s prophetic agenda that they will be anointed for their task. Despite the refusal of the original person scheduled to carry out the task, God still used some other people to fulfill the task.

It must be very clear to you that the carrier of the virtue is not the owner of the virtue.
The refusal or failure of the vessel can never stop the flow of the virtue. The messenger is only a medium for the conveyance of the message, he is not the owner, his refusal may delay the delivery of the message but can never abort it.

As I draw the curtain on this,

I like you to pursue God genuinely.
Have clarity of purpose.
Have sincerity of desire.
Know your assignment and mandate.
Sharpen your edges.
Be focused on your task.
Respect and honour graces.

Never place a man in a position reserved for God in your ministerial journey if you don’t want to be stranded.

I love you.
