If you are in ministry, especially as a church founder or branch Pastor, one of the greatest challenges you will face is having people to run the vision with you. The truth is that you cannot achieve much singlehandedly. There is a limit to what you can do alone.
That you are a foreman does not mean you should do the job of four men. Inspite of your energy, you need synergy to arrive at your destiny.
It is said that where there is no vision, the people perish. However, I submit that where there are no people, the vision will also, likely perish.
As a leader, after having a dream, you need a team that will give steam to the dream.
Unfortunately, most people make mistakes in raising a team. Hence, instead of the dream having steam, the dream gets dim.
Let us use Abraham as a case study in raising his leaders:
- HE TRAINED HIMSELF FIRST
You can not lead people beyond where you have led yourself first.
As a leader, no matter what you say and teach, you end up replicating who you are in your team.
Jesus talked about the blind leading the blind. This implies that a blind leader will definitely have blind followers.
Everything gives birth according to it’s kind. Your leadership team will definitely be a reflection of your person and personality.
Like people, like priest.
For instance, it will take your personal diligence as a leader to birth excellence in your ministry.
You must train yourself as a leader, else you will lose your core team as they grow.
A lot of pastors will organise training meetings in their churches and bring guests but will not attend.
Someone once invited me to do training in his ministry but while his workers were listening to me, he was in his office.
- HE ‘BIRTHED’ HIS MEN INSTEAD OF USING MERCENARIES
We are reliably informed that the men were born in his house.
All the men of war that Abraham mobilized were born, raised and trained in his house.
As a pastor or Church leader, it is dangerous to poach or hijack leaders from other ministries to come and become leaders in your ministry.
Ministry is not like football, where Chelsea will buy a player from Liverpool. Don’t lure ministers from other ministries with money, material benefits and welfare, so they can leave where they are serving to come and serve in your ministry.
You will end up using your money to buy heart attack.
You will end up hiring hirelings.
Have a systematic and systemic training process to produce ministers and leaders.
- HE TRAINED THEM
As a pastor, don’t joke with training.
Train your members to become workers; train your workers to become leaders(heads of department) and train your leaders to become ministers.
It is better to train your people and lose them than not to train them and keep them.
If you don’t train them, don’t blame them.
If you don’t train them, they will drain you.
If you don’t train them, they will stress you.
Training brings treasure out of trash.
- HE ARMED THEM
After training, you must arm the trained.
In this context, this implies empowerment.
He train them as soldiers and gave them arms and ammunition.
An unarmed soldier will be harmed.
If you are not armed, you will be harmed.
Teach your people how to operate in the supernatural.
If it is only the leader that is supernaturally empowered, the ministry is in trouble because he will age and die fast as a result of overwork, wear and tear.
- HE SENT THEM TO WAR
After training and empowerment, you must employ, deploy and redeploy.
If you constantly train leaders without having jobs for them to do, you will lose the people you train in droves.
I know of a Church in Nigeria that your project work in Bible College to enable you graduate is to organize an outreach and plant a Church.
For instance, if you train 100 pastors, impart and ordain them but you don’t release them to plant new branches afterwards, there is a high likelihood that you will lose about 80 of them. They will leave to either start a church or work in a smaller Church where they can manifest what you’ve deposited in them.
If you set a man on fire, you must give him a place to burn.
- HE WENT TO WAR WITH THEM
As a leader, your emotions are contagious.
If you want the best from your people, you must lead from the front.
He went to the war with them and they were motivated and gave their best and they became victorious.
Whatever you want to see in your ministry, model it.
If you want a giving congregation, be the first giver.
If you desire a praying Church, be very prayerful.
- HE WAS INTERESTED IN THEIR WELFARE
After the war, Abraham ensured that everybody ate.
If you study very well, everybody ate except Abraham. He was more interested in the welfare of the soldiers than about himself.
It is true that many people are ungrateful today but it should not stop the leader from taking care of his people within his ability and the capacity and capacity of the ministry.
As someone once said, if you pay peanuts, you will get monkeys to work for you.
