THE GLOOMY CORRIDORS (Episode 36) – Olumide Fatunsin

Lisa sighed and asked another question,

“My husband is with a strange woman now. What should I do?”

Pastor Helen answered, “Do you remember the story of King Abimelech and Sarah, Abraham’s wife?”

“I can’t remember vividly.”

“The story is in the book of Genesis chapter 20 verses 17 and 18 ‘So Abraham prayed unto God: and God healed Abimelech, and his wife, and his maidservants; and they bare children.

18) For the Lord had fast closed up all the wombs of the house of Abimelech, because of Sarah Abraham’s wife.’

King Abimelech took Abraham’s legal wife but God’s judgement came swiftly upon him and his family. He returned her to her husband and Abraham prayed for their restoration. It is a dangerous thing to tamper with anything that belongs to God’s children, including their spouses. Abimelech paid for his covetousness but God’s mercy prevailed later. Mrs Lisa, you have the power and it’s the power of prayer. If you really want your husband back, you have the authority to bring him back from the grip of the strange woman or whatever bondage he is kept. God, who joined you together is still on the throne. He will hear your prayers and restore your marriage.”

Lisa was sceptical about her explanation and asked for its possibility after he has gone for years.

“Marriage is both physical and spiritual.” Pastor Helen said unequivocally.

“It is spiritual and must be sustained with prayers, study of the Bible, holiness, standing on the promises of God and trust in God’s unfailing power. Also, our weapons of warfare are not carnal but mighty through God. Before anyone can enjoy his/her marriage according to God’s plan, they must come under the Lordship of Jesus Christ who is the foundation of every godly home.”

“I have already surrendered my life to Jesus Christ. I confessed and repented of my sins and accepted him into my life. I have finally accepted the Lordship of Jesus Christ over my life.” Lisa confirmed.

“That’s the greatest miracle in the world. To be born into God’s family through Jesus Christ is a great privilege and gift from God. But your husband isn’t yet in the kingdom because the enemy has blindfolded him. The enemy is after families to destroy and put confusion among them.”

“Who is the enemy after my family? How can I defeat him? What did I do to him?” Lisa queried innocently.

“The Bible says in Ephesians 6 verse 12, ‘For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.’

The devil is our common enemy who has other demons working with him both day and night to fight against the Christians and everything that pertains to them, including their marriages. They are rulers of the darkness of this world and wicked spirits working against peace and joy in every family. Beyond the periphery of dining and wining in marriage, there are depth of joys we can’t reach without shutting the mouths of these enemies through holiness and prayers in the name of Jesus. We are always on the battlefields and must be at alert and be ready to take instructions from our faithful Captain. The instructions are in the Bible which we must obey by His grace. Many families have been corrupted and torn apart because of their lack of watchfulness against the wiles of the devil. They took their marriages with levity and trusted in the arms of flesh which cannot save.”

“Hmnn, could it be that we trusted in our strength and wisdom? We hardly pray or study Bible in our home then. We lived each day blaming each other and sleeping over our disagreements until it graduated to a big tree that couldn’t be uprooted. Had I known this truth, I would have saved my marriage by God’s grace. What can I do now?” Lisa asked dejectedly.

“God will restore your marriage in Jesus’ name. Are you willing to take the next step?”

“Yes Pastor!” Lisa answered firmly.

Pastor Helen asked her to confess her past mistakes and shortcomings to God and to ask for his forgiveness and strength to pray. They began to pray as Pastor Helen gave the prayer points for her life and marriage. She later quoted Matthew 18 verse 19 to buttress the prayer for the restoration of her marriage.

“Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.”

She held her hands and continued to pray against every strange woman in her husband’s life and for the hand of God to touch him in a miraculous way. They prayed for restoration of every good thing that had been lost and perfection of God’s will in their home. Lisa prayed her heart out with tears to God who is attentive to the prayers of a broken and contrite person.

After their prayers, Pastor Helen admonished her to continue to pray and confess positively over his life. She promised to confide in her husband and be praying for her. Before she left, Pastor Helen shared a testimony of one of her friends who had similar experience and how God came to her rescue.

“Vivian was a faithful wife but her husband fell into the hands of a strange woman who played a fast one on him. He abandoned his family and went to live with her in the neighbouring city. After two years, she decided to take up the weapon of prayers after she had been counselled to abandon him and look for another man. She remembered how they started their marital journey and the beautiful promises of God for them to serve him in the music ministry. However, the devil fought and snatched him away. When she came to that understanding of claiming what belonged to her, we sought the face of God with fastings and she continued to remind God of his promises for them.

She stood on these promises in Romans 4 verses 20 & 21.

“He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God;

21) And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.

She was fully persuaded that God is able to bring him back and fulfil his promises. She waited patiently and confessed positively until after six months when he came back bruised and battered. The woman had suddenly hated him and fought against him with Iron rod in the middle of the night. He stayed in the cold until the morning. She didn’t allow him to pick anything and he began to ask for money from strangers until he was able to get the transport fare. It wasn’t easy for Vivian but she accepted him with the love of Christ. It was after two months that the lady confessed she used strange power to win him over because of his humorous lifestyle and physical height. We saw beyond the physical and knew the tactics of the enemy to terminate his destiny. If Vivian had given up, she would have lost him and God’s purpose for their lives. Right now, the Lord is using them all over the US proclaiming the gospel through music. Mrs Lisa, rise up and claim what belongs to you. God has a great purpose for your home. Claim your husband in God’s strength!”

Lisa thanked her and left. The words, “Claim your husband in God’s strength!” kept ringing in her ears until she reached home.

When she opened the door, sitting on the sofa was a white…
